We started Canine Connoisseur in July 2009. Our beloved Rottweiller Solomon had been vomiting intermittently for 6months, and after numerous tests and trials we had diagnosed not only a chronic pancreatitis but also allergies to chicken, beef and duck.
Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas - an organ that releases enzymes into the gut to help digestion of fats, protein and carbohydrate. Pancreatitis is unfortunately a common problem in dogs, and causes varied symptoms including vomiting and abdominal pain. We started a low fat diet (James Wellbeloved Lamb & Rice), but were struggling to find treats that were suitable.
Many dog treats do not list all the ingredients - just stating 'meat and animal derivatives'. Therefore I started to bake my own dog treats for him. Soon I was baking for friends pets, and selling the treats at local dog shows. We have branched out into selling training treats, muffins, Kong fillers and even birthday cakes.
